Five Holiday Art Projects to Boost Holiday Spirit

Happy Holidays! During this year 2020, I feel the need for holiday spirit! We are stuck at home and are in need of good cheer. So here are five Holiday projects that will bring the fun of the holidays into your home!

  1. Cork Reindeer ornaments- I collect wine corks so this is a nice project that you can use those extra corks. For one reindeer you need: 2 corks, copper or black wire, hot glue, Christmas ribbon, small black beads and yarn or string.

Step 1: Cut a cork in half then, in half again.

Step2: Cut a triangle in 2 of the 1/4 pieces.

Step3: Hot glue those pieces to the whole cork.

Step 4: Hot glue the half piece to the front top part of the whole cork. (See pictures)

Step 5: Take a 3in copper wire and twist around your finger leaving a straight piece at the end (see the pictures) Do 2 of them.

Step 6: Poke both curly wires in the head of the reindeer.

Step 7: Take a Christmas ribbon and string another piece of string to the ribbon for the hanging part then wrap around the reindeer’s neck.

Step 8: Cut off a little tail from the scraps of the corks for the tail and ears. Then hot glue them to the back end of the reindeer and the top of the head by the antlers. You can also hot glue a tiny red jingle bell for its nose too. I’m also going to add small black beads for eyes. Or you can always draw eyes with a sharpie.

2. Bird Feeder Wreath- You need: grapevine wreath, small hole metal wire mesh, twine and holiday or seasonal decorations. http://www.thegardenroofcoop.com/2013/01/wreath-bird-feeder.html

Step 1: trace outside of the wreath on the wire mesh. (I bought mine on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L1LLV63/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Use wire cutters or scissors to cut the circle out.

Step 2: tie the mesh circle to the wreath using twist ties or wire or twine or hot glue it.

Step 3: Decorate the wreath with festive seasonal flowers.

Step 4: Tie 3 pieces of twine across from each other on the wreath. Make sure they’re secure. Tie them together at the top by making a loop and tying a knot.

Step 5: Now you are ready to put bird seed in the middle and hang it up.

3. String Star Ornaments- You need: star template, cork, pins, jute string, and glue. I included my pictures of my stars and the blog I found the instructions on.

4. Painted and decorated mason jars:

Supplies: Design to cut out, modpodge, Sparkle modpodge, ribbon and festive floral sprigs.

Step 1: Cut out or use your cricut to cut a design to put on your jar. I use Classico spaghetti sauce jars.

Step 2: Glue the design onto the jar using ModPodge.

Step 3: Paint the whole jar with sparkle modpodge.

Step 4: Let dry and put a candle or lights in your jar. You can put floral sprigs in the jar for a festive look.

5. Clothes Hanger Snowflake- You need hangers, twist ties, embellishments and lights. I did this and it is so fun and satisfying. I put battery operated lights on mine

Enlist your children or grandchildren to help you with these projects and/or make them for a friend! Spread Holiday cheer as much as you can to end this horrible 2020 year on a positive note! We have to believe 2021 will be a better and more positive year.

***Supplies were bought either at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, DollarTree or Amazon. If you are ordering from Amazon you might want to get on it because it’s slower than usual due to the Holidays.
