10 Mindful Writing Prompts to Start a Self Journey Journal

Reflecting and writing about yourself is a good way to stay present. It can also help with depression and anxiety. Write about sad and happy things. It can bring light to your self growth.

Sometimes I have a hard time “opening up” to my journal and sit and stare at it. It’s like I’m back in high school! HaHa! Here are ten prompts to help you get started in your self journey journal.

  1. What things or events brought me joy today and why? When you reflect on these happenings it brings back the joy you felt at that moment. Be grateful for it! Enjoy it again.
  2. What are five things that stress me out and how can I improve them. Writing down things or events that stress you out can help deescalate them and put them into perspective. Why does it stress me out? Am I stressing out unnecessarily? How can I help myself feel less stressful?
  3. List 10 things you are grateful for and why. It feels good to think about things you are grateful for. Those things give your life meaning and purpose.
  4. What is something you can do for yourself this week to make you happy? It is important to do things for your self. Whether it’s a bubble bath or getting a pedicure, self-care is important for your morale.
  5. What did you accomplish today? If you didn’t accomplish anything, it’s ok! Write about what you want to accomplish.
  6. What is your happiest memory? Write about something or sometime that has made you happy. Why did it make you happy? Can that happen again?
  7. What can you do to make someone else happy? Plan something nice to do for someone. Doing nice things for someone make them happy and you!
  8. What are you interested in that makes you happy? List them then write about how you will make them happen.
  9. What is one habit you want to quit and one that you want to add? Be specific. Getting rid of a habit is hard. Replace it with a good one! Be consistent!
  10. Who is someone that is positive that you would like to spend time with more? Make a plan to talk to that person and spend more time with them. Why are they so positive? How can you be more positive? Adopt their positive habits.

You can also just write about your day or what’s happening in you life. Write like you are talking to your best friend. It’s important to be honest with yourself no one else is going to read this. Really dig deep inside yourself.

Be present. Be you.
