Which art markers are for me?

My daughter and I have been coloring since she was 5! She has surpassed me in so many ways. I started to wonder what markers are the best for using in our drawing and coloring. Which are the best for coloring in coloring books? We needed one that didn’t bleed through the coloring book pages. In this post we are going to test different markers to see which we like. Each of these makers were rated 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon.

This week will be testing Tombow 56167 Dual Brush Pen Art Markers, Primary, 10-Pack. Blendable, Brush and Fine Tip Markers

Here is what we used our markers on (each was purchased on Amazon):

We also used our sketch books to draw and then color.

Tombow markers glide nicely, but blending with them was difficult. I love the color combinations you can get but just had trouble blending them. The blender marker would pick up the paper. So, we tried a paint brush which worked better but you might want to use watercolor paper if you do that. It soaked the paper even though our brush wasn’t very wet.

As you can see they did not blend well.

The second set of markers we used were the Ohuhu makers. The Ohuhu dual markers blended nicely with a blending water color brush on watercolor paper. It is clear that the Ohuhu markers blend well with the watercolor brush and the Tombow pens not so much.

Next we tried the Uni-Posca Pens to paint with. They did very well on wood and on thick art paper. They are not for blending but strictly for painting. My daughter rated the Uni-Posca pens 7/10 stars. You have to be careful not to press too hard on them or the ink pours out.

We enjoyed trying these markers and all had their own attributes. The Ohuhu and Tombow are the best to color with in coloring books. They do not bleed through onto the next page. Please post any questions you may have.
